As a young boy growing up in Biblián, Ecuador, Byron Barahona knew what it meant to have very little. One Christmas Eve, when he was just five years old, his father surprised him with his very first toy—a simple plastic cowboy. To Byron, it wasn't just a toy; it was a gift of love, sacrifice, and hope. He treasured it, but after his family immigrated to the United States, it was accidentally left behind in Ecuador.

Although the toy was lost, the feeling it gave him never was.

 

As Byron grew older, he never forgot the kindness he had received or the sacrifices his parents made to give their family a better life. Those experiences inspired him to create Toys for Ecuador in 2010, with one simple mission: to bring hope and joy to children and families who needed it most.

What began as one man delivering Christmas gifts has grown into a community of volunteers in both the United States and Ecuador, providing toys, food, clothing, school supplies, medical supplies, and other essential resources throughout the year.

Giving wasn't just something Byron did—it was who he was.

Today, we proudly continue his mission, honoring his legacy by sharing the same compassion, generosity, and love that defined his life. Through every gift we give and every family we serve, Byron's spirit lives on.
